Fluid Medium is a performance in which artist Susie Green draws on her experience as a life model to redefine the position and transform the gaze on what is a predominantly female figure. Rather than an observer/observed relationship, this performance provides a relationship where the model interacts with her portrait painters through a series of drawing exercises. Therefore, a shift takes place from a traditionally silent and passive figure: the model embodying the teacher becomes the main actor in this situation. Here, the artist activates the notion of empowerment, a practice that gives individuals and groups the ability to act on their social, economic and political conditions. Previous life model drawing experience is not required to participate and drawing materials are provided. Participants’ drawings will remain on display at the FRAC until 28 February.
