The relationship to animality is at the heart of this performance by Cécile Serres. The presence, sometimes fleeting, exuberant or invisible, of this hybrid being, transforms the space into an environment where the hierarchical classification of species becomes obsolete, challenging the traditional relationships it supports. The wanderings and gestures of the character created by the artist, avoiding anthropomorphism, appear as much a reflection of human behaviour towards other forms of life, as they suggest possible alternatives to our ways of understanding and interacting with the living world. A coexistence where for a given time, that which affects is also affected and made permeable to external bodies.
BIOGRAPHY
Cécile Serres
Cécile Serres’ work orchestrates the encounter between sculpture, digital image and performed action. Each installation is underpinned by an dedicated litterary space, a fragmentary narrative that she produces as she goes along, like a soap opera. In 2019, at the invitation of the FRAC, she created and played at the Comédie de Reims, a lyp-sinc musical inspired by voguing, about precariousness and violence at work.
