For the past several months, Brazilian democracy has been in a state of disarray. The far-right government, fuelled by a nostalgia for military dictatorship and religious fundamentalism, have begun a crusade against the popular classes, the LGBTQI + community, the indigenous population, environmental activists, and human rights defenders. The cultural and artistic spheres and liberties were amongst the first fields targeted by the far-right government that has abolished the Ministry of Culture and is quick to censor any works with themes that “go against” their values.
