THE PROJECT

Conceived in 2020 by La Cartonnerie / Césaré / La Comédie / Le FRAC / Le Manège / Nova Villa / L’Opéra, faraway – festival des arts à reims is expanding internationally to better look at our world through the lens of performing arts, and to question it with the help of boundary-pushing artists.

Every year, the festival features over 150 artists from more than 10 different countries. With 35 shows and an average of 50 performances over a 10-day period, the festival takes place in more than 10 venues across the city of Reims and its greater metropolitan area. The festival is a hub for new work, hosting an average of 5 brand-new shows per edition. The festival schedule is designed to allow audiences to make the most of all the artistic offerings and to easily move between venues. Approximately 50% of the program is offered free of charge to the public.

With a collaborative program shared among the seven cultural organizations, advantageous ticket packages, and curated itineraries to see all the shows, discover multiple venues, and get a taste of new artistic disciplines, faraway truly takes us on a journey.

As the first festival of the year in Reims, FARaway – Festival des Arts à Reims aims to position itself as a major festival for performing arts and contemporary creation in France and internationally. It is a festival that is committed to artists, giving them a voice and reflecting the current world.

A tribute to Argentina

In 2026, the Reims multidisciplinary arts festival, faraway returns with a fascinating edition entirely devoted to Argentina’s unique and thriving arts scene.

Shaped by its Amerindian roots, the influence of the countries that line its borders, as well as a host of European cultures, Argentina is a multifaceted country, rich in contrasts, but one that is currently marked by a rocky political landscape.

Audiences can discover new creations, emblematic works, and even classics revisited by this year’s audacious performers, shining a light on the complexities of contemporary Argentinian society. Collective memory, gender inequalities, politics, and personal relationships are just some of the subjects explored as part of the seventh edition of faraway.

For the twelve days of the Festival, with performances programmed at venues around the city, the public can go from one show to another, taking advantage of the eclectic range of performing arts events spanning theatre, music, dance, circus, performance, and much more…

This year sees a new event, Les Midis faraway (faraway Lunchtime Dates) where the public is invited to learn more about the different performances through themed encounters and discussions with artists during a more relaxed lunchtime setting.

With its rich and pertinent artistic programme, the 2026 edition of faraway once again offers a discovery of the international performing arts scene that is open to all!

2022 EDITION #3
27 Jan. > 06 Feb. 2022

A transdisciplinary dialogue
For its third edition, FARaway – Reims Art Festival draws on the success of its two previous years by extending an invitation to international artists, with a penchant for provocation and challenging the status quo. Over a ten day period, Reims will be the stage for a wide range of performances and events. Committed to the artists it supports and serving as a mirror for the issues they explore through contemporary creation, the Festival continues to question the relationship between art and reality, creation and current trends.

Coming mainly from Lebanon, the artists participating in this edition will host debates and exchanges around the artistic proposals coming from a country that has been constantly forced to regenerate, recreate and reconstruct in the hope of a more serene future.
The colour green, associated with the Land of the Cedar, is honoured through the logo of this year’s Festival.
The third edition also features artists from Palestine, Mali, China, Russia, France, Belgium, and Switzerland.

Organized every year by seven of Reims’s cultural institutions, FARaway – Reims Art Festival strives to ensure that all of the performances are accessible with a specially designed itinerary that allows spectators to stroll from one event to the next, or from one stage to the next.
Inherently multidisciplinary, FARaway – Reims Art Festival showcases all forms of art. Its rich and eclectic programming is intended to appeal to a wide public, and particularly younger audiences, with a dedicated children’s programme called little FARaway.

2021 EDITION #2
04.02 to 14.02.21

Beyond borders
FARaway is only two years old, but is already asserting an ebullient personality. The festival shaped in a previously unseen collegiality, by seven cultural organisations from Reims, persists and identifies in its will of overthrowing borders. Stirring artists coming in from world wide – Russia, Congo, Brazil, Great-Britain, Switzerland, Nigeria, Italy, Turkey, Mexico and of course France – will make out of Reims a microcosm of artistic forms crossing over genres and shaking ideas. Lucha libre and quadraphonic round, photographic and sensual dissidence, scanner performances and passinho dancers from the favelas will, among other things, regenerate our imaginations, both aesthetically and in terms of our perceptions of the world. Ten days of live performance that mix the disciplines and invite each of us to think outside the box.

2020 EDITION #1
30.01 to 10.02.20

Question the world
Let’s go for the first edition of FARaway! For ten days, Reims will vibrate to the rhythm of an intense festival, with “stirring artists” from all horizons, full of hopes and willing to fight. When others occupy the city streets, they stand on the stage. That’s where they come to delve into History, to wrestle with reality, to sketch out dreams, to share with the audience a time when the human being comes first.

This new festival, carried and imagined by seven cultural structures in Reims, we wanted it to be open to the world, with a focus this year on Brazil and the African continent. Through a programme that is as open to the diversity of forms as it is committed to the subjects it tackles, let yourself be carried away by the excitement of a festival like no other, through thematic routes built to allow you to navigate from one stage to another, to follow one performance after another and to be able to attend all the shows without exception.

In this effervescence, FARaway will not fail to make you travel far, in territories ablaze with questions. Without doubt the most beautiful of journeys…
