To understand contemporary Lebanon, one needs to examine the civil war that raged in the country between 1975 and 1990. “The warlords became the political elite after 1990.” “The country is marked by glaring social inequalities, widespread corruption, a serious financial and budgetary crisis, and political paralysis.” The revolt of 17 October 2019 and the demonstrations that followed, as well as the explosion of the port of Beirut, raise a number of important questions that allow us to consider the future ahead.
