Black is present – Noire est present

Lune Diagne

Présenté par

Presented by Le FRAC

Alioune Diagne, also known as Lune Diagne, is a multidisciplinary artist who lives between Senegal and the Netherlands. A visual artist, choreographer, and dancer, he long devoted himself to contemporary dance before returning to the visual arts in 2018. Emblematic of his work, his series of drawings and paintings on the Senegalese infantrymen massacred at the military camp of Thiaroye on 1 December 1944 reflects his relationship to history and transmission. The stories, silences, memory, and events of history, whether his own or that of his country, form the foundations of this artist’s work. From these, he explores buried memories via powerful plastic and performative works that revive and pay homage to those men and women who are no longer, and serve as a reference for future generations in their identity and social construction. At the FRAC, Lune Diagne’s performance summons the ghosts of the past in a gesture of reconciliation.
