The migrant worker’s fridge magnet collection is an installation of 149 magnets collected by Rosalie Schweiker between 2010 and 2016 during her various trips to maintain her status as a travelling artist and a viable financial situation. The installation comes to life at different times throughout the day and is also accompanied by 5 drawings with a caustic sense of humour that question the absurdity of this system. Informal but political, the work questions the precariousness of the artistic profession and, more broadly, the ambiguity of economic migration. Throughout the festival, the public can participate in Rosalie Schweiker’s work. Visitors are invited to serve themselves a drink from the available selection, and to share their experiences and perspectives on human migration, whether for economic, political, cultural, or professional motives. Rosalie Schweiker (b. 1985), based in London, is an artist, producer, organizer, and designer with a strong social conscience. Her work, often collaborative and immaterial, fuses art and life, guided by the motto “people over art”. She is also a founding member of the Migrants in Culture group.
