ACTUALITY REEL_theheavens (2017) comprises a series of videos called theheavens that artist Tom Ireland has been creating since 2015. In this collection of videos, artist Jeff Koons’ iconic sculpture Rabbit (1986) is seen silently floating in outer space. Inspired by a recurring dream, the work depicts Rabbit with its shimmering steel skin like a satellite moving through the universe, acting as both a transmitter and receiver. Tom Ireland attributes this ongoing video series to a consequence of Rabbit’s prolonged omnipresence in his thoughts, a situation whereby he feels haunted by the sculpture.
