At the junction of circus and contemporary dance, Seb and Blanca address, not without humour, the question of the border between the United States and Mexico.
Inspired by the Lucha Libre, a style of acrobatic wrestling that is very popular in Mexico, the two artists seize many clichés to better divert them in a virtuoso and jubilant hand-to-hand duel. He comes from the United States, from Mexico. Both come from the Centre national des arts du Cirque. In other words, they know the borders—
First in perfect symbiosis, the bodies mingle in a total fusion before an arbitrary border separates them. In this parable about the confrontation of two worlds, everything is played from one body to another with great virtuosity and a good dose of humor. Cacti, peppers, sombrero, tequila, McDonald’s, XXXL, Super Bowl… as many stereotypes as opportunities convened to highlight cultural differences between Mexico and the United States. From duels to choreographed fights, this circassian western raises questions of territories, traditions and roots, power and manipulation in the face of the shifting wall of prejudices that constantly twist and divide reality. From the reappropriation of clichés to the game around identity, Borderless questions the boundaries -physical, cultural, economic or linguistic- and their meaning.
