Through the Calebasses Labs installation, Argentinian composer Mario Lorenzo raises awareness of the problem of noise pollution, exploring a low intensity yet highly rich sound space.
The installation adopts a low-tech approach: it is primarily made up of South American calabash bowls, which serve as sound boxes for small, low-energy speakers. This device offers a non-intrusive and unique diffusion by transmitting a myriad of sounds at multiple scales.
The sound level is intentionally kept very low, encouraging the public to listen attentively and closely. Visitors can discover the work in listening sessions that last approximately twenty minutes and are guaranteed to experience both a sense of aesthetic wonder and calm.
