Two characters, a mother and daughter, tell of their experiences during times of conflict and the traumas that remain. They confront their pain and question society but also other societies that have, or are experiencing conflict. Women are often “easy prey”, and their voices are rarely heard. They are often deprived of their rights and are taught the culture of silence and forgiveness. Cousu main is a text that proclaims that silence and fear should not be an option for any woman. And that fear and shame must change sides. Jeanne Diama was the author in residence for two months in the autumn of 2021 at Nova Villa where she wrote this text.
