Over the course of one year, M, the magazine of French newspaper Le Monde, published the diary of two Ukrainian sisters, Olga and Sasha, respectively 34 and 32 years old, one living in Paris, the other in Kiev, or more precisely in Kyiv—the latter is the spelling preferred by both women when writing the name of their capital. Cowritten with journalist Elisa Mignot, this diary tells the story of their war, at once intimate and political. It also and perhaps above all tells the story of the awakening of a patriotic conscience and the emergence of a long-buried cultural identity. For example, Olga and Sasha decide to no longer speak Russian at home, but only Ukrainian… This reading allows the public to experience the explosions of war, and to understand the impact of the conflict on two sisters, who share the same fears, albeit thousands of kilometres apart. The reading will be followed by a conversation with Olga and Sasha, hosted by Elisa Mignot.
