Lucha Libre

Sound and visual installation

Méryll Ampe

Presented by Césaré

Coproduction Le Manège

Through this sound and visual installation, Méryll Ampe recreates the effervescence of lucha libre, a form of wrestling that is extremely popular in Mexico. An immersive experience that plunges the public into the atmosphere of an arena. In Mexico, lucha libre is much more than a sport, it is a tradition, a performance where luchadores are veritable icons, elevated to the rank of superheroes.

In the arena, both sound and light play an important role in drawing the audience and wrestlers into a highly charged atmosphere. It is this atmosphere that Méryll Ampe manages to translate in her installation “Lucha Libre”. Working from field recordings taken by the artist in Mexico, the sounds of different fights are put to use here in order to produce an immersive composition in perfect symbiosis with the light creation imagined by Jimmy Boury. Are you ready to step into the arena?
