Soledad Sánchez Goldar

During the military dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983), Soledad Sánchez Goldar’s father was arrested, savagely beaten by soldiers using a bag full of dishes, and then left for dead. This tragic event is the starting point for the artist’s performance, where dishes are a symbol of both violence and hope. Using photographs, letters, objects, and clothing, the artist reactivates this family archive. The destruction of a bag filled with dishes becomes a metaphor for torture and the denial of the human condition, while the assembly of fragments evokes the vestiges and ruins that result from repressive regimes, wars, or genocide. In this work, Soledad Sánchez Goldar offers a performance that gradually brings the audience from trauma to the possibility of reparation and even healing.

Soledad Sánchez Goldar is an artist and cultural worker based in Argentina. She holds a degree in Theater from the National University of Córdoba and is currently a PhD candidate in Arts at UNC.

The performance program presented at FRAC Champagne-Ardenne as part of this 7th edition of the Faraway Festival was curated by Mabel Tapia, an independent researcher and curator. Born in Buenos Aires, she lives and works in Paris. Her research focuses on 21st-century artistic practices that bridge the use of archives and political action.
