Under the pseudonym SOÑXSEED, artist and DJ Soñ Gweha makes use of analogue mixing desks to continue her exploration of black, queer, and visionary mythologies and spaces of emancipation. Her artistic production is expressed via different modes (music, video, performance, installation, sculpture, and collective practice) and different imaginations (utopian, erotic, mystical) in a quest for emancipation from social norms and a harmony between human and non-human beings. Drawing on her Cameroonian cultural heritage, music, and political foundations—Afro-feminist and racialized queer environments—the artist forges the tools and material to explore the mechanisms of healing and survival, as well as the notions of intimacy and joy, from which she creates immersive, resilient, and jubilant spaces. At the FRAC, SOÑXSEED’s DJ Set, making use of her vinyl collection, takes the public on a discovery of jazz essences and R&B vibes, mixed with some of the revolutionary sounds and songs that have marked Cameroon’s history.
